With consumerism at an all time high and brand image playing an ever more important role in consumers buying choices, we felt an overwhelming desire to challenge what has become “The Norm.”

At Mash Creative we believe there is a niche in the market for a collection of products that turns conventional branding on its head. S/O/T/O (State of the Obvious) is a range of merchandise and apparel which does just that. As the name may suggest, the collection consists of branded items which State the Obvious. S/O/T/O uses the products description to create a unique brand identity.

The collection currently consists of tote bags, notebooks, mugs, t-shirts and posters. Each product is supplied with custom branded packaging (selected resellers only) which utilises the S/O/T/O theme – This is my Mug Box, This is my Degradable Polythene Postal Bag, for example.

The S/O/T/O collection is designed to have a playful, modern and bold brand image which is flexible enough to be adapted across a wide variety of items. The collection will continue to grow with many other products already in the pipeline.

I was about to create an identity with this kind of feel and the client seemed not to be interested in the approach. Its a fantastic representation of the brand and i love it nevertheless…

I especially like the mug, and like the “this is my mug box” even more! The phrase is so peculiar that it draws attention to itself in a great way.

I like this, I’m a fan of transparency and copy based design solutions, although cotton isn’t really very eco-friendly. Hemp would have been better. But it’s fun, I just feel that I’ve seen it before. A bit like listening to an Oasis song. You like it but can’t help feeling that it’s all rather….familiar.

Fantastic work here! Does anyone know the typeface used? I came across this work a while ago and have yet to figure it out. It seems similar to AG Schoolbook, but still differs in some of the letterforms.

Thanks

Let’s not forget the Public Image Limited work that came before. In terms of concept, I see the SOTS work as identical.

Nice execution!
But to many recognizable, already widely spread, ‘styles’ merged into one!
No not very original.

Fantastic portrayal of what modern marketing has become. I can’t wait for products to be emblazoned with the “buy-me-now” message instead of any brand at all.
I’d love to get my hands on one of those trusty A5 Notebooks!

I have a question regarding the photo of ink being poured onto the screen for the “This is My Eco-Friendly Reusable Tote Bag” bag. I noticed that the ink is being poured above the image, implying that the screen was ‘printed’ before being ‘flooded'(?)

Note: this question isn’t of criticism but of curiosity. Is there a technique to printing before flooding a screen for the first time?

As a concept it seems brilliant. In reality, for every person who might want one there are likely 11 people who wouldn’t be caught dead with these products.

“This is my medium black t-shirt”

Who cares? Certainly not the rest of us.
