Mateja Kovač is a Croatian illustrator and academic painter. Due to her love for design, characterised by European spirit and feminine style inspired by Paris retro chic, she has been building her career on projects mostly related to fashion.
Although she plans to continue her collaborations with clients all over the world, this year she decided to more intensely devote her time to self-initiated projects, which would, more recognisably, reveal her personal perspectives and creative reflections.
Mateja’s atmospheric style that mingles with abstraction suggested a new shift in her work.
In her words, “A need for change came up as a result of continuous specialisation and work on understanding my personal fascinations that have shaped me as an artist.”
Inspiration for the new visual identity was found in the gestural strokes and playful colour palette that Mateja uses as a starting point in her creative work. Emphasis is given to lightness and spontaneity, as well as a refined taste in colour and shape, through which the illustrator attracts us into her intimate world influenced by simple, day-to-day moments.
